Child Wellbeing & Protection Policy Statement 

East Kilbride Youth Club (EKYC) is fully committed to promoting the wellbeing, safety, and rights of every child involved in our activities. We recognise our responsibility to provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where children can enjoy football and develop to their full potential. 

Our Commitment to Children 

EKYC is committed to ensuring that: 

  • Every child has the right to protection from all forms of harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. 
  • All children—regardless of age, disability, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, socio‑economic background, language, or sexual identity—are treated with dignity and respect. 
  • Children have the right to express their views and have them taken seriously. 
  • Child wellbeing and protection are a shared responsibility across the club. 
  • We work in partnership with children, parents/carers, volunteers, and relevant agencies to promote children’s welfare, health, and development. 
  • We provide safe, enjoyable opportunities for children to participate in football. 
  • We respect and uphold the rights, wishes, and feelings of all children. 


Safeguarding Standards 

EKYC will: 

  • Implement clear procedures to safeguard children and respond to concerns. 
  • Ensure all concerns are recorded accurately and stored securely in line with data‑protection and safeguarding legislation. 
  • Respond to concerns or allegations of misconduct or abuse in line with SYFA and Scottish FA procedures. 
  • Share information only when necessary for the protection of a child and in accordance with legislation and guidance. 
  • Recruit, train, support, and supervise volunteers to ensure best practice and minimise risk. 
  • Ensure all eligible volunteers and officials are members of the PVG Scheme. 
  • Follow guidance issued by local Child Protection Committees. 
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of this policy and its procedures. 


Reporting Concerns 

EKYC ensures that: 

  • Any child, parent/carer, volunteer, or member can raise a wellbeing or protection concern. 
  • Concerns should be reported to the Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer (CWPO) in the first instance. 
  • All concerns will be taken seriously, responded to promptly, and managed in line with Scottish FA and SYFA procedures. 


Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer (CWPO) 

EKYC has appointed a designated Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer responsible for: 

  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation and Scottish FA/SYFA policies. 
  • Overseeing PVG membership and safe recruitment. 
  • Ensure all child wellbeing or protection concerns are recorded accurately and stored securely in line with data‑protection and safeguarding legislation. 
  • Supporting volunteers to implement best practice. 
  • Acting as the main point of contact for children, parents/carers, and external agencies. 

The CWPO will ensure this policy is reviewed: 

  • In line with any changes to legislation, national guidance, or Scottish FA/SYFA policy updates. 
  • Following any concerns, incidents, or learning arising from child wellbeing or protection matters within EKYC. 
  • At least every three years as part of the club’s standard policy review cycle.
